GATE 2016 Score Card can be downloaded from March 30 onwards

​The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2016 exam results have been declared. The GATE 2016 exam was held on January 30, January 31, February 6 and February 7, 2016.Candidates can check the GATE 2016 exam results on the official website. After the declaration of the results, candidates can download their GATE 2016 Score Card for the paper (for which he/she has taken the examination).

The GATE 2016 Score Card can be downloaded from the official website site between March 30, 2016 and May 29, 2016 by the qualified candidates only.

The GATE score of a candidate reflects a relative performance level in a particular paper in the exam across several years

The score is used for admissions to post-graduate engineering programmes (i.e. M.E., M.Tech, direct Ph.D) in Indian higher education institutes with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other Govt agencies

Admission to post graduate programmes with MHRD and some other government scholarship/assistantship at engineering colleges/institutes in the country are open to those who qualify through GATE. GATE qualified candidates with Bachelor degree in Engineering / Technology/ Architecture / Pharmacy or Master degree in any branch of Science / Mathematics / Statistics / Computer Applications are eligible for Master / Doctoral programmes in Engineering/ Technology / Architecture / Pharmacy as well as for Doctoral programmes in relevant branches of Science. To avail the financial assistance (scholarship), the candidate must additionally secure admission to such a postgraduate programme, as per the prevailing procedure of the admitting institution. GATE qualification, however, is not required for candidates with Master degree in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Pharmacy who may be seeking scholarship/assistantship for relevant doctoral programmes.

WHAT IS NEW IN GATE 2016 ?

• There are 23 papers in total in GATE 2016 with the introduction of new paper Petroleum Engineering (PE). Candidates are required to choose any 1 paper out of 23. Changes in the same are not accepted once the application is submitted.
• After completion of GATE 2016 examination, all answer keys will be made available for dispute within a short time. Every answer key can be challenged. A nominal fee will be levied to prevent frivolous challenges.
• An online virtual calculator will be available to candidates at the time of examination instead of the physical calculator. Candidates can practice with the online virtual calculator on GATE 2016 website.
• There are few changes in Syllabus of papers

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of the candidates in various undergraduate subjects in Engineering/Technology/Architecture and post-graduate level subjects in Science. The GATE score of a candidate reflects a relative performance level in a particular subject in the examination across several years. The score is used for admissions to post-graduate programs (e.g., M. E., M. Tech, direct Ph.D.) in centrally funded Indian institutes of higher education (i.e., institutes which are provided with financial assistance by MHRD and other Government agencies). The score is also used by some Public and Private Sector Undertakings for employment processes. Direct recruitment to Group A level posts i.e., Senior Field Office (SFO Tele), Senior Research Officer (SRO) (Crypto) and SRO(S&T) in Cabinet Secretariat is now being done on the basis of GATE scores.GATE 2016 is a competititve examination conducted in India to select the meritorious students into IITs, NITs and other top institutions for M.Tech and Ph.D Programmes. The GATE Score is also used by PSU’s to recruit entry level engineers in the organization. The test check’s the candidates understanding in undergraduate level subjects.

GATE 2016 Eligibility Details

Candidates interested to take GATE 2016 should be satisfy the eligibility details which is mentioned here.

·         Candidate appearing for GATE 2016 examination should have an Engineering/Technology (4 years after 10+2 or 3 years after Diploma in Engineering/Technology). Those Candidates who are in final year of the program mentioned here is also eligible to take the exam.

·         Bachelor Degree holder of Architecture (Five Year Course) and those candidates who are in the final year of graduation is also eligible to take the exam.

·         Bachelor Degree holder of four year program in science (B.S) and those aspirants in final year of graduation is eligible to take the exam.

·         Master degree holder in any branch of sciene/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent and those aspirants in the final year program is eligible to appear for the exam.

·         Four year integrated Master’s degree holders in B.Sc Engineering Technology and those aspirants who are in the second year or higher year of programs is eligible to appear for the exam.

·         Fiver year integrated Master’s degree holders or dual degree holders in Engineering/Technology in the fourth year or higher year of programs is eligible to take the exam.

·         Five year integrated M.Sc or Five Year Integrated B.Sc/M.Sc degree and those candidates in final year of such programs are eligible to take the exam.

GATE 2016 Examination Pattern

Examination for all the 23 papers is conducted as the Computer based examination only.

GATE 2016 Application Fee

Aspirants should apply for the exam only through online. SC/ST/PwD Category candidates should pay fee of Rs.750. Women candidates should pay an application fee of Rs.750 and other category candidates should pay fee of Rs.1500. Applicants should pay the fee through e-challan or through the net-banking facility.

GATE 2016 Application Submission

Application should be submitted to the authority along with the relevant documents and application fee.

E-learning: India's education system needs to get online

India’s education system — be it primary, secondary or higher levels — is fraught with quality and quantity challenges: There is a shortage of quality teachers, an enabling environment for students and infrastructure, just to point out a few.

These hurdles are not going to go away soon even though there is a surge in the number of students at all levels and an increasing demand for quality education. There is also a corresponding demand from industry for skilled human resource.

But this thirst and demand for quality education and trained personnel will not be easy to quench because it takes time, funds and quality human resource to set up good institutions.

Then there is the rule book: Starting a school or a college in India needs magical levels of energy and perseverance.

In such a scenario, online education could be a boon for those who do not have access to quality education or are keen to reskill.

The e-learning market in India is estimated to be around $3 billion and it is growing. Take, for example, the massive open online course (MOOC) provider Coursera.

With one million users, India ties with China as its biggest source of online learners after its home base, the US. That the market expectations from this business model are robust can be gauged from the fact that the firm has raised $49.5 million, coinciding with the US-based firm’s plans to tap the Indian market to increase its user base.

The UTV Group is in talks with top institutions such as IIMs, IITs and even globally to start these courses. A few months ago, IIT-Bombay launched three MOOCs. The world of online learning is attractive not only because learning is no longer tethered to a classroom and timetables, but also because software programmes can “seamlessly integrate social media, making it possible to create online communities that are course specific”.

Along with the traditional textbooks, blogs, tweets, podcasts, webcasts, online chats, discussion boards, virtual study jams ensure that learning becomes multidimensional. Online courses can also help all those who are already in jobs to reskill and remain competitive without taking time off from their careers.

There is evidence that a majority of those registering for these courses have an undergraduate degree or higher and the courses are not being accessed by those who could benefit from education — women, the less educated and the poor.

India’s challenge, say experts, will be to make these facilities reach these social groups. India truly cannot afford to miss this bus.
