Tips for Group Discussion: 7 Tips to Ace your Group Discussion | MBA BBA BCom Admission 2017

Most of the students are grappling with this issue. In order to deal with a topic, one needs to construct right arguments to be put forth in a GD. These right arguments would always entail reasons and facts supported by examples and evidences. Logical approach builds credibility, difficult to be negated and ignored. The objective of a GD is always to reach to a solution of the given problem, which can be accomplished by establishing some semblance of order or structure in the course of the discussion.  The purpose of the group discussion is to reach to a final solution of the problem under question. Therefore, the entire approach during discussion should be solution-centric. Here, are a few tips that can help you prepare for a group discussion:

1) It’s not a debate hence don’t be closed. Be flexible and receptive. Be Assertive, not stubborn. Aggression isn’t appreciated.

2) Participate and not just merely sit for the GD. Make some points before the beginning of the discussion in the allotted time. Give substantial content as many times as you speak up.

3) Read a lot of newspapers, business magazines; keep cuttings with you. Provide suitable examples to support your point of view.

4) You will be tested for your ability to interact in a team, reasoning ability, leadership skills, initiatives, assertiveness, flexibility, creativity, ability to think on your feet and relevance of your points. Therefore, try giving a holistic perspective on the issue.

5) Do not make an end to your point by asking a question. Make sure you don’t argue in a GD. Do put your view forward, but don’t forget to maintain the decorum of a GD.

6) Avoid using fillers like: “umm” and “like” as this gives others the chance to cut you.

7) Conclusion is not at all necessary to draw. It is only needed when you are specially asked to draw it. Do not filter your thoughts whatever comes take it . Filtration can lead you to a situation of not speaking at all.
