XAT 2017: Registration, Exam Dates, Syllabus, Exam Pattern

XAT 2017 will be conducted on 8th January 2017

The format of XAT would remain pen-paper based. This is to ensure that candidates of all backgrounds are at par, so that those who have pre-familiarity of operating computers, specially coming from privileged background or having worked in IT sector, do not get any advantage over others who do not have access to computers. The paper-pen mode also ensures that all candidates are tested on exactly the same set of questions, and not on different sets.
XAT 2017 would be conducted across India in the following cities.

Applicants should note that registration for XAT 2017 and appearing for XAT 2017 is the preliminary step towards applying to XLRI and XAT Associate Institutes. Applicants to different institutes, besides XLRI have to apply separately to Institutes of their choice.

Applicants for XAT 2017 can choose to pay online using credit card/ debit card/ online banking. Candidates can also make payment through a demand draft made from any bank (in favour of XLRI Jamshedpur A/C XAT). Third alternative for making payment can be “cash”. This can be done from any of the IDBI Bank branches located in India to make payment for XAT 2017. Click here to view address of IDBI Bank Branches.

XAT 2016 EXAM PATTERN AND SYLLABUS

XAT is a paper pen based test of 3.5 hour duration. The paper comprises of total 5 sections divided in two papers. Paper 1 consists of objective, multiple choice questions from 3 sections – Quantitative Ability, English Language & Logical Reasoning and Decision Making and has a duration of 3 hours. Although the examination pattern keeps on changing but Part A of the question paper of XAT 2015 had 84 questions which were further divided into three sections with 28,23,33 questions respectively.

·            Decision Making/ and Analytical Reasoning (23)
·            Quantitative Ability/and Data Interpretation (33)
Points to Note:
·             Number of questions varies from year to year.
·             Number of choices for each question is five.
·             There is negative marking (1/4) for wrong answers.
·             XAT paper contains differential marking, so you must read the instructions carefully.
·             GK Section in Part B has been introduced from 2013.
·             Duration has been increased by 20 minutes for Part A from 2013.

The XAT paper of 2016 is expected to have same number of questions just like 2015, but the candidates must prepare in such a way that any change in the XAT Exam Pattern must not affect their performance in the test. Though no major changes are being expected to be made in the XAT Pattern except the duration of the test.
Part B of the paper had 2 sections, which are as follow –
·             Essay Writing
·             General Awareness
Note – The marks of General Knowledge will not be used for determining the percentile and cut off at first stage of selection.
A detailed description of XAT 2016 Examination Pattern
A. Verbal and Logical Reasoning
This section consists of 28 questions and are aimed to test the verbal and logical reasoning of all candidates. Firstly the verbal part will test the knowledge of the candidate in the English language and for that purpose will asks questions related to sentence formations, syntax, comprehension, filling up of blanks with appropriate words etc. The best way to get through this section is to have thorough knowledge of English grammar.
Similarly the logical reasoning part will ask questions to test the logical reasoning abilities. The questions will mainly look for the logic behind each given statement and option, and this logic will form the answer to the questions asked.
B. Decision Making/ and Analytical Reasoning
This section will consists of 23 questions formulated to test the Decision making and Analytical reasoning of the candidates. The first part is Decision Making which tests the practical aspect of the programme and is a test of the candidates ability to process and make effective and productive decisions as situations demand. There will be given situations and the options given marks the various degree of decision making abilities of the candidates.
This section also includes the test of analytical reasoning of all the candidates. The section aims at testing the analytical skill of the candidates, where data are provided and are asked to be analyzed and with reason. This section forces the candidate to exert their mental capabilities to the maximum and that is the challenging part.
C. Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation
This section contains 33 questions and as the name suggests it will firstly contain questions to test the mathematical skills of the candidates. This section of the XAT 2016 paper will comprise of the questions that will require good Mathematical Skills and the ability to do quick-oral calculations. Questions in this section will be based on direct applications of concepts and formulae and will have questions from Business Mathematics, Arithmetic, and Geometry. Candidates must practice basic formulae and concepts of Mathematics and also the Sample and Previous year question paper.
This section also aims to test the data interpretation skills of the candidates in regards to diagrams, reports and other such factual data. Hence, the questions will be asked on the basis of Pie chart, Tables, Data Sufficiency & Bar / Line graphs. The knowledge of multiplication tables, ability to quickly convert fractions to percentage, knowledge of square and cube roots and other calculation short-cuts and approximation techniques will be of immense help to the students in solving the questions quickly and correctly.
D. Essay Writing and General Knowledge
In this section, the candidates will be required to write an essay of about 200-300 words on any given topic. The topics on which essay writing can come will generally be related to things happening in world around you. The topic can be anything like on corruption, politics, global warming, India as an economy etc. For preparation of this section, the candidates must try writing one article per day. The GK section of XAT will have questions that will intend to test your knowledge of things happening around you. XAT Exam Pattern Summary:
The XAT 2016 Question Paper is expected to have
– 5 sections and the number of questions may vary,
– all questions will carry equal marks
– one fourth of a mark may be deducted for each wrong answer, and

– the total time for the examination is 3.5 hours (revised).

XAT 2016 Application and Selection Procedure

XAT 2016 Application process has started from September 4, 2015. For the first time, there is a common application form for XAT and XLRI Jamshedpur. It is a completely online process. The application form has to be filled online and the application fee can be paid through Cash, Net Banking, Demand Draft, Credit Card or Debit Card. The applicants have to upload passport size color photograph along with signature. The file size should not exceed 50 KB.
Registration Procedure
·         Visit xatonline.net.in click on Register, create a new account with your personal email id, you will receive a unique XAT ID and registration link.
·         Click on the link and create your own password. (Next time you will be allowed to login with this XAT ID and password).
·         Select your Citizenship (Indian/ Foreign / NRI).
·         If you are interested to apply for XLRI, select the programme of your choice Business Management (BM)/Human Resource Management (HRM)/Global Business Management(GBM)/General Management Programme (GMP). Candidates not interested in any of the XLRI programmes can skip this step.
·         Fill preliminary information (Name, Date of Birth, Gender, Father’s Name, Mother’s Name, Category and Phone Number etc….)
·         Provide your mailing address and permanent address.
·         Provide your educational qualification starting from 10th onwards.
·         Provide details of work experience starting from the latest job. Candidates desirous of applying to GMP must have total experience of five years till March 31, 2016.
·         Choose the XAT 2016 test city.
·         You can preview the inputs you have entered.
·         Please upload your scanned digital photograph and signature less than 1 MB (Click here for the process of uploading the photograph and signature).
·         Select Mode of Payment: There are three possible modes of payment
Mode 1
                             Online Payment Gateway
·                     Through VISA/Master Credit/Debit Cards
·                     (American Express Card is inadmissible)
·                     IDBI Net banking (this option is available only for IDBI account holder)
        Mode 2
                                 Cash Payment
                          Please take a print out of the XAT Pay-In-Slip visit nearest IDBI bank and make    the       payment.
      Mode3
                                 Demand Draft
                          Please make a DD made from any Bank in favour of "XLRI Jamshedpur A/c XAT" payable at Jamshedpur.
Important: Applicant paying through Mode 2 & 3 should update the payment details in the registration page.
·         Candidates only interested in XAT but not in XLRI need to pay a fee of Rs. 1500/-(Rupees Fifteen Hundred only). Candidates interested in XLRI programme(s) needs to pay an additional fee of Rs.250/- each.
·         Print XAT Confirmation page, in future for all correspondence with XAT office, quote your XAT ID.
·         Please Send Confirmation page and the Demand Draft to:
·         The Chairperson Admission, XLRI, Circuit House Area (East), Jamshedpur- 831001.
·         The same must be sent within fifteen days from the issuance of DD.
·         If you have made the payment other than DD you should not send the confirmation page.

·         Please download the XLRI e-Brochure from www.xlri.ac.in or www.xlri.edu.
·         Please download the Admit cards from December 20th to December 31st, 2015 (xatonline.net.in).
·         Candidates applying through GMAT may do so by following instruction given on www.xlri.ac.in
Things to Remember:
Once you provide your email id you will receive a unique XAT ID.
·         Please quote your email (provided during the registration) and XAT ID for all future communication
·         Please ensure that you provide a valid email address.
·         Please ensure that you use your personal email address only as your primary email address in the application. (If you use your official email address and in case you switch jobs, it would be difficult for us to communicate with you).
·         Please add admissions@xatonline.net.in as trusted sources in the anti-Spam software of your email. Otherwise, either you will not receive important emails or they will get delivered to your Spam/junk folder.
·         Please access your emails regularly and ensure that your inbox is accessible.
·         Please note that the XAT ID and password gives you an individual login on www.xatonline.net.in and on frequent intervals, you need to check for mails from XAT & other associated institutes.

XAT 2016 - Xavier Aptitude Test | Dates, Eligibility, Exam Pattern, Admit Card

XAT 2016 - Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT), conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur, is one of the biggest national level MBA entrance exam aspired by majority of the MBA aspirants. In 2015 the XAT exam was taken by over 90,000 candidates. XAT 2016 scores will be accepted by XLRI Jamshedpur and other Xavier Associate Management Institutes and 141 B-schools across India for admission. XAT 2016 will be held on Sunday, January 3, 2016. The application process has started from September 4, 2015 and the last date to apply is November 30, 2015. This year XLRI has introduced some major changes in XAT exam pattern and application procedure.

About XAT:
XAT 2016 will be conducted on Sunday 3rd January 2016. XLRI conducts XAT on behalf of the XAMI. For more than 60 years XLRI is conducting XAT at all India level to select the most appropriate students for management education. The XAT score is being used by more than 100 institutes for the admission.

XAT 2016 would be conducted across India in the following cities.
Agartala, Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Berhampur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Coimbatore, Cuttack, Dehradun, Delhi, Goa, Greater Noida, Gurgaon, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jabalpur, Jaipur, Jammu, Jamshedpur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mangalore, Mumbai, Nagpur, Nasik, Noida, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Ranchi, Rourkela, Sambalpur, Surat, Tiruchirapalli, Trivandrum, Udaipur, Vadodara, Varanasi, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam. 

XAT 2016 would also be conducted across the following two international cities.

XAT 2016 Eligibility: The XAT 2016 aspirants should be graduates in any discipline from a recognized university or institute. Final year students would also be eligible to take XAT 2016 provided they complete their final exam by June 10, 2016.

XAT 2016 Application Procedure: XAT 2016 Application process has started from September 4, 2015. For the first time, there is a common application form for XAT and XLRI Jamshedpur. XAT 2016 Application Fee: The application fee for XAT 2016 is Rs. 1500. The candidates have to additionally pay Rs. 250 for each programme of XLRI.

XAT 2016 Admit Card: XAT 2016 Admit Card download process will start from December 20, 2015 and end by the end on December 31, 2015. No hard copy of the admit card will be sent to the candidate. 

XAT 2016 Exam Pattern: XAT is a paper pen based test of 3.5 hour duration. The paper comprises of total 5 sections divided in two papers. Paper 1 consists of objective, multiple choice questions from 3 sections – Quantitative Ability, English Language & Logical Reasoning and Decision Making and has a duration of 3 hours. 

Paper 2, partly subjective and partly objective type, comprises 2 sections – General Knowledge and Essay Writing. The General Awareness section consists of 30 questions. The duration for Paper 2 is 30 minutes.

XAT 2016 Selection Procedure: The XAT takers will be shortlisted on the basis of their performance and on the basis of the cutoff, XLRI and other XAT participating B-schools will shortlist the candidates. In final selection process, the shortlisted candidates will be appearing for the GD, PI and or WAT rounds conducted by the B-schools.
